Little Falls, New York, has been home to the Junket desserts factory since 1891. A set of collectible baseball coins were distributed in their products in 1962. From 1977-1988, Veterans Memorial Park was home to the Little Falls Mets of the New York-Pennsylvania League.

This night in 1984 was Matt’s 25ยข Beer Night. Francis Xavier Matt II himself delivered the ceremonial first pitch.

The home team dugout. Emerging at left, bat in hand, is Kevin Elster, about to make the jump from the New York-Penn League to the World Series in two years.

The level of play in the New York-Penn league in 1984 was illustrated by the starting lineups. The visiting team used a designated hitter, Bernardo Brito, en route to his first of 6 minor league home run crowns. The home team had the pitcher in the starting lineup. Batting cleanup.

The game program includes the lyrics to the official team song, written by Edwin Vogt. An excerpt:
Swift as eagles that swoop for prey;
They mean to win and not just play.
It’s written in the stars, they say;
The L.F. Mets will have their day.

The sun has set over the Mohawk Valley and 830 patrons who enjoyed their evening with the Mets. And the Matt’s.
